Christmas Decorations

In December every year it begins. People all over bring out their Christmas decorations, commercial and handmade, as part of their holiday traditions. Stores set out their Christmas tree decorations in the middle of October, long before Halloween and Thanksgiving draw near. Some sell Christmas decorations online throughout the year.

Whether celebrated as the birth of Jesus Christ, or simply as a time for giving and sharing with family and the less fortunate, Christmas decoration buying draws in money as much as gift giving.

Over the years Christmas yard decorations bring more than competition between neighbors. Decorators enjoy the oohs and ahhs from passers alongside the creativity involved in their Christmas lawn decorations. Having the Christmas spirit sends some families driving around neighborhoods just to get a glimpse of a lighted metal reindeer, or a plastic Santa waving and saying "ho, ho, ho", along with other outside Christmas decorations. Santa often finds his place within a wood Christmas decoration deer sleigh. The ski lift decoration for Christmas with Santa, elves and reindeer swing as the ski lift rotates them back and forth is an all time favorite for children and adults.

Each culture enjoy their own Christmas traditions. Christmas decorations in Spain are often hand crafted and include a miniature nativity scene called a Nacimiento. Instead of Christmas day, gift giving begins on January 5th, Epiphany.

Greek Christmas decorations remain rare, though some started to incorporate western style decorations through candles, lights and displays. The majority prefers to avoid commercialism of this holy day. Instead, they pass down precious carols and celebrate together.

Since we credit them with starting the decorating, German Christmas decorations hold a special place for all who give and receive. A shop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, aptly named the Christmas Village, stays open year round selling wooden nutcrackers and other wooden Christmas toys. Germany is also known for its hand-blown glass ornaments.

Victorian Christmas decorations consist of silk flowers and lace. Cherubs and doves sometimes adorn fiber filled or wooden ornaments.

Rudolph, Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman are among some of the Christmas cake decorations sold at craft and food stores. Newer cake decorations in Christmas garb include Spongebob Squarepants, the Grinch, and Snoopy.

Look for Christmas decorations clearance sales in December and January to stock up for the following year. Exterior Christmas house decorations with lights usually go on sale three to four times before Christmas.
